The Hobbs Fire Department is required by state and federal law to maintain the privacy of all patients who are treated and transported by our department. The legal responsibility when collecting and storing your personal information follows the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). HIPAA was enacted by the United States Congress in 1996 and protects the health insurance coverage for workers and their families, requiring the establishment of national standards for health care transactions and national identifiers for providers and employers alike.
This notice outlines our legal duties of privacy practice which provides information about how we may use and disclose protected health information. You have the right to review the notice before signing, as well as requesting the restrictions of how your health information is disclosed for treatment, payment, and health care operations.
We respect the privacy of patients transported or treated by our department as well as keeping the health care information under strict confidentiality at all times, as failure to comply with HIPAA can result in civil and criminal penalty (42 USC ? 1320d-5).
